Striving to success Day 5

Today was the release of application for higher nitec results. And, I got into Higher Nitec in Wireless Technology, the course which I liked. Today I was off from work, in the early morning, I called NS, and ITE to ask about enlisting and deferment, well took about the whole morning.

Afternoon, was a short computer service which earned me quick $50 cash however client place is located quite far from my place. After the deal, went to school to fill in the deferment form for NS and waited for Kah Kiat for 40 minutes. After filling up the form, dad fetch kah kiat and me to CMPB. Reached CMPB at around 4:30pm and the counters were closing soon. Now here comes the bad news, I have to go back to CMPB again maybe on 3 March 2010 to submit the acceptance of enrollment document and Kah Kiat may have to go back 2 times because he is also applying for Poly.

Anyway, took bus 5 and reached home within 2 hours. Gosh, SBS Transit routes were always very long which many people dislike. So, I have exactly 2 more years before enlisting again, what are my plans?

Here they are,

1. Higher Nitec in Wireless Technology Certification
2. CompTIA A+ Certification (Archiving soon in March 2010)
3. Cisco Certified Network Associate Certification
4. Cisco Certified Network Professional Certification*
5. Class 3 / 3A Driving Lisence

CCNA is a must for this 2 years while CCNP will be considered as a part time education when I enter NS 2 years from now. Anyway, my IT career life would be all about networking. Just love to do networking, hope one day I can be a server manager for a large corporation.

Alright enough talking about certifications. During CNY, my aunt told me that in current Singapore, anyone could be a degree holder, while in the past Singapore, there were very few degree holders. Than the thought came to my mindset. Since, there were a lot of degree holders, that means HR departments must be sourcing out for those whom have degree and lots of certifications and life experience instead of a Fresh Grad whom went by only Primary > Secondary > JC > University.

Compare a person whom had gone through a lot of hands on and real life experience with a normal degree holder who do you think HR would employ? An example will be mine education life shown below currently

Current
Primary > Secondary (5 years, Retain 1 Year) > ITE Nitec > ITE Higher Nitec

Future to come
Primary > Secondary (5 years, Retain 1 Year) > ITE Nitec > Real Life Work > Additional IT Certifications > Real Life Work > ITE Higher Nitec > Additional IT Certifications > NS > Additional IT Certifications > Poly > University.

Some how the longer journey is better than the short journey, I just wonder why everyone is so "KAISU" (Afraid to lose) in Singapore? Just stay cool, take your time enjoy your career building path. The longer journey would be a better one. If you are a intelligent person, you would be able to figure out what I am talking about the whole new ideal of the longer journey.

Education comes first before success, even Henry Bill Gates dropped out from university and in the end went back and archived a degree. Nothing is impossible in this world, if it is impossible what are humans for? Way to go, Strive to success!
