The reason why I hate IT Industry
Last week was a quite a stressful week at work but it showed me how cruel being in the IT Industry can be. On previous posts, I have plans of being a dealer in the casinos over here. Now I am more interested in the Casino industry rather than my old time interest Information Technology. Today I will reveal 3 shocking facts of being in the IT Industry that I found out which kept many people from joining.
1. Responsibility
The responsibility scale is large in IT Industry. When your boss assigns you a task to handle 100 computers in a department to be error free, it must be perfect. Let’s make a scenario, John works as a IT Technician and was assigned to handle 100 computers in a department. During the morning, 3 users complained that their computers were malfunction, and John fixes it before going for lunch. On the afternoon, 5 users complained that their computers were malfunction, and 2 users in the morning complained of having slight problems with their computers as well. John would have to attend to 7 computers now and by evening all problems must be solved before he can leaves his office. Do you get the picture? Being in the IT Industry, it is a never ending responsibility as computers tend to have errors frequently.
2. Cheating & Scamming
Have you ever shop in Sim Lim Square? If you do, you were probably being cheated by a IT Salesman. If a customer is new to computers or have little knowledge about it, and goes to a shop in SLS. Most likely the IT Salesman would create a scam story to convince the customer to purchase a system which only costs SGD1000.00 for SGD3000.00. It is common for IT Salesman to cheat newbies money and the worst, the newbie still thinks that it was a great deal. Next problem is that your boss earns much more than you. You are the one whom will be doing all these shits in fixing computers and get only a little money. Therefore everything is unbalance and unfair unless you become a boss.
3. Sympathy
I have serviced over 300 home users computers before during the past 4 years and I can tell you some users have financial difficulty. Their computers were running on old brothers like Intel Pentium III or IV. That was 10 years ago technology and to service a P3 or P4 Computer requires a lot of time and money. Sometimes I charge them at a very cheap price like SGD15.00 for a 2 hours service and most of them would take my sympathy for granted and think that their SGD15.00 is very big and can spam my cellphone seeking for additional support on their computers. If I were to charge them expensive, it will be very harmful as they were already poor. So, these were the reasons why I hate IT Industry so much.
4. Conclusion
If you compare being a dealer and in the IT Industry, you will find that being a dealer causes less harm. Those gamblers are on their own will to come gamble on the casino table. No one points a gun or threatens people to gamble at the casinos, it is their own choice, and the dealer just play the part in dealing cards and receiving insults from them. Also, a dealer only reports to the casino and gamblers and once a game has ended successfully the dealer does not need to think about it anymore. Unlike a IT Technician he / she have to worry about the computers even after it was repaired successfully.
Some people say it is all about luck, like Donald Trump “Everything in life is luck.”
